Want to know the real deal secret to great abs? It’s simple: eat less – A LOT less.
We’re not kidding. You can do crunches until the cows come home, which strengthens your core when done properly, but in order to attain that stellar six pack you need to lose weight and to keep your body fat percentage low. Obviously this isn’t sustainable (nor is it always healthy), but if you diet hardcore just once or twice a year, peaking at planned intervals, then you’re likely to see serious results. Remember that athletes go through fitness phases and cycles themselves, and they too need some off time. During their off-season athletes gain fat and lose muscle. It’s no different for everybody else. So develop a plan and stick to it, keeping in mind that 1/3 of the year should be more extreme in dieting and exercising, 1/3 should be moderate, and 1/3 should be baseline.

sad but true. on a side note, as opposed to doing crunches, if you keep your ab muscles tight all day (like you would if you were wearing a tummy-baring shirt), it;s an easy way to keep abs in shape.
starving yourself before tummy-baring events makes a world of difference!
